The Canadian Innovative Entrepreneur Immigration Program (SUV) was a pilot project launched by Canada on April 1, 2013, initially set for a duration of five years. By April 17, 2018, it was officially listed as an immigration program by the Canadian Immigration authorities. The aim of the program is to attract foreign entrepreneurs with innovative spirits to contribute to the economic and industrial development of Canada and create job opportunities. Applicants are required to have innovative ideas and secure a support letter from a government-designated incubator (Incubator). Upon obtaining permanent residency (PR) status, applicants must demonstrate ongoing active involvement in the management of a Canadian company.
Applicants in Canada must own a qualifying business, meaning the applicant and the designated institution jointly hold more than 50% of the company's shares. The applicant must submit their business plan and related documents to government-designated venture capital funds, angel investors, or incubator institutions, and convince them of the commercial value of their business ideas to obtain a support letter. Different institutions have various requirements, and there are currently about 30 officially designated incubators. This program is a popular entrepreneurial immigration project with limited quotas and rare opportunities.
